There is always criticism regarding negatives of Indian Democracy, though we always pride ourselves being the largest functional democracy. Similarly, we always criticize the public and public servant being more loyal to group to which they belong rather than to state / nation (India).
(Presently we care much about rules, regulation and expectation of our own clan/ group rather than rules regulation and expectation of state).
Situation in this regard is so bad that any body doing there ordinary duty is given medals.
There is also comparison of our system with USA's. Latest being, regarding USA's commitment after 9/11 terrorist attack and its success in not allowing second attack in last 10 years. Killing Bin Laden and so on. Compare it with our dismal record. This is not the first time, USA has resolved some thing and achieved it. Way back in sixties when USSR went ahead of USA in putting man in space, USA resolved to land man on Moon ahead of USSR and fulfilled that commitment Against this, very few may be remembering Indian Parliaments's resolve to get back every inch of land from China that remained unfulfilled for last 50 years.
This difference is due to the way India and USA are created. India as a Nation/ democracy was created as super imposition on feudal society. For India, democracy and nation are new concept, and are yet to take firm roots. Against this, those who created USA had no baggage of 3000-4000 year history, and it is aggregate of people are those who had left their roots in achieving their own dreams.
We can write a book, on what we meant by feudal system. But here it is sufficient to identify it as having two distinct class of ruled and ruler class. Ruler class has one mentality and ruled class has another one.
So, so far whatever movement/ protest were held in India, they were essentially a demand from ruled class to ruler class. They never challenged the position of ruler class.
And in this aspect, Anna Hazare's movement is departure from past, where in it was emphasised that in democracy ruler in fact is agent of ruled class. Principal is ruled class.
If this perception percolated in masses there will be real change and that will be real democracy.
In another aspect also this movement was/ is unique, so far all protest movement were/ are being held to preserve / strengthen there own clan/ society's position visa-vis other group or nation. This is the first movement that was actually aimed at not getting any benefit for any single group but was aimed at eradicating something wrong with the nation.
This concept also if percolated in masses can change India. This will loosen the hold of clan/ society over individual's mind and allow them to serve and behave like a citizen of India rather than member of a group.
